Lived Gap
Where our indicator index and people’s life ratings diverge.
Definition
Restrict both orderings to the same 132 economies with a 2023 index score and a captured life-evaluation estimate ending in 2023. Keep the original five-domain scores; rerank them within this intersection. Rank the Cantril-ladder means for the same economies. Positive values mean a better ordinal position for life evaluation than for the index.
How to interpret it
Life evaluation is a 2021–2023 pooled survey mean, not a 2023 annual observation or current mood. The index is a separate normative construction. Rank distances are ordinal and not proportional wellbeing differences. Cultural response patterns and sampling errors affect comparisons. Source confidence intervals for survey means are included, but no significance test on the rank gap is performed.
This is a named diagnostic, not an official statistic, causal model or universal prosperity score. Missing outputs remain unavailable. Source estimates, normative choices and uncertainty are distinct.
